Our Mission<\/span>

We aim to create a safe Asian gathering culture in Pittsburgh where oral stories and knowledge can be shared and preserved. We hope to reanimate local histories, preserve cherished family recipes and practices, and nurture intergenerational dialogue. Through intimate and large-scale events, we facilitate community leadership and mentorship across different Asian ethnic groups.

Our Launch<\/h3><\/div>

In Spring 2022, we launched JADED Presents…<\/em>, a programming series that builds interethnic coalitions to create more safe spaces of kinship and addresses racial trauma while celebrating cultural heritage. Programming and intimate events aim to reanimate local histories, preserve cherished family recipes and practices, and nurture intergenerational dialogue.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our Origin<\/h3><\/div>

JADED first began through organizing REST<\/a><\/em>, a response to the mass shootings on March 16, 2021 in Atlanta, which targeted three Asian spas and massage parlors, leading to the deaths of eight victims (six of them Asian women). Working with <\/strong>Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) Pittsburgh<\/a> and a coalition of allied organizations, we offered community members art workshops, yoga and qi gong classes, and children\u2019s activities from local artists and healers. DJ Stephanie Tsong (aka DJ Formosa) also played a live set featuring music from the Asian diaspora.

The event took place at Carnegie Museum of Art on April 1, 2021. Over the course of the whole event, more than 100 AAPI members came to support and to care for each other. The event raised over $8,000 through raffles and donations which were shared with Sex Workers Outreach Project PGH for their pandemic mutual aid fund; distributed to Red Canary Song to support migrant AAPI sex workers; funded self defense kits for AAPI women in Pittsburgh; and set aside for future Pittsburgh-area AAPI programming.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
